PageHabit: August Fantasy Unboxing
About a year ago to this day, I subscribed to a book subscription company called Bookly Box. They offered several genres, and each monthly box contained one book and a few bookish accessories or cozy comforts. But the main draw was that a book was donated to a developing country for each box purchased. Fast forward, and Bookly Box was acquired and rebranded to PageHabit. It's a little brighter, bigger, and bolder, but still with the same great mission. Read on for an August unboxing!
Each PageHabit box comes with an annotated book of your selected genre. I decided to try this box after receiving a code for free shipping, and a bonus Instagram promotion, which came in the form of an extra book. I selected the Fantasy book for August. Here's what was included:
Cactus pen, est $3?
This is a strange writing utensil. It's too fat to hold in my (tiny) hands properly. But it's a funny gag gift. I'll likely be passing this off to someone else
"If you can read this, pass me my book" Socks, $5 est?
This was my favorite item in the box! I can always use socks, and they also make a great photo prop. I wish it wasn't quite so "athletic" looking, with the red ribbed edges. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be keeping and wearing these.
Feather pen (2), est $3?
I still have a black feather pen from one of the BooklyBox's I received way back in the day! These aren't the best writing utensils. In fact, the caps are difficult to twist off. But they make for great photo props.
Magnetic Bookmarks, est $3?
I hoard bookmarks, so this was a welcome surprise! The quality of these bookmarks are ok, and the design isn't anything too special, but they will serve their purpose.
Fires of Mercy, Spencer Ellsworth
A short story was included in this box! This is a great way to discover new authors.
I believe this was the bonus item I received from the Instagram promo. This is very much a middle school level book and I will definitely be donating it. I wish I had gotten a more relevant book, especially given the reading level of the Fantasy book that was included.
Drum roll please! This is the book that was included in my Fantasy PageHabit box. I've never heard of it before, and it's the first in a series, so I'm curious to see how everything starts out. On the cover, there's a review from Brandon Sanderson, an author I really really respect, so I will definitely give this book a chance. The book is annotated with little notes from the author, which is a cool, personalized way to read!
This month, PageHabit it donating books to Cameroon. They are working with The Buea Book Project and the Catholic University of Buea to build their first library. The card that they include in the box includes information about the city and country that they're donating books to, as well as more information about the organization they're partnering with.
PageHabit goes for $29.99 per month, and $4.99 shipping in the U.S. I received a coupon code for free shipping in August.
Total Box Value: $35.48
The value of this box was just all right. Keep in mind that I received this box for $29.99 (free shipping), plus a bonus book, so the contents appear to be worth the value I paid. However, the items are not completely usable. The only reason the value of the box is so high is because of the hardcover book that was included. But if you count the book that they donate, the intrinsic value of the box just might make you feel good enough about yourself, and that may be worth it!
