FairyLoot October: Beautiful Deceptions

It’s time for another unboxing! I love this time of the month where all of my subscription boxes appear on my doorstep in the same week- it’s like getting the ultimate bookish care package. The October 2018 FairyLoot theme was Beautiful Fandoms and featured some gorgeous exclusive items from great fandoms, and another beautiful exclusive edition book. Read on for more!

Aelin Candle - Nerd Poured Candles

The past few months have each featured an exclusive candle with a beautiful glittery topping and fresh, vibrant scents. I really appreciate that the scents are so normal- they’re lovely to open up anywhere in the house just to freshen a room up, and this candle smelling of lemon verbena is no exception! Lovely!

Deceptive Queen Socks

Yay, these socks fit (whew)! These are inspired by the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. The print isn’t my favorite because frankly it’s kind of creepy. I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing these in public but at least the weather is getting cooler and I am always in need of socks to wear around the house.

Mourners Beanie - Fiction Tea Designs

This is by far my favorite item in the box. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is one of my absolute favorite series and I’m looking forward to repping The Dregs as the weather gets colder!

Stories Keychain - KDP Letters

This keychain is a stunning piece of art! It’s amazing quality with vibrant enamel coloring, and comes with a tassel as well. It’s a bit large though, so I’m not totally sure where I’ll hang it yet.

Wren’s Secrets - The Tea Leaf Company

I love receiving tea in my book boxes and this bag of loose leaf tea smells delicious! It smells really refreshing, and the flavors are familiar to me, so that’s always a delight.

Faerie Deck of Cards - FictionTeaDesigns and Emily Haynes

This is sooo beautiful! This deck of cards features three standalone cards with character art from The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, in addition to a complete deck. Within the deck, the characters are also pictured on Jack, Queen, and King cards. The only problem is that I think this deck is too pretty to play with!

Girls of Paper and Fire, by Natasha Ngan

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK! It features an Asian-inspired fantasy world, kickass female protagonists, and a F/F romance. I am so thrilled to finally have this in my hands- and a FairyLoot-exclusive version at that! It is signed by the author and has these really vibrant magenta sprayed pages. Check out the Goodreads summary below.

Goodreads Summary

Each year, eight beautiful girls are chosen as Paper Girls to serve the king. It's the highest honor they could hope for...and the most cruel.

But this year, there's a ninth girl. And instead of paper, she's made of fire.

In this lush fantasy, Lei is a member of the Paper caste, the lowest and most oppressed class in Ikhara. She lives in a remote village with her father, where the decade-old trauma of watching her mother snatched by royal guards still haunts her. Now, the guards are back, and this time it's Lei they're after--the girl whose golden eyes have piqued the king's interest.

Over weeks of training in the opulent but stifling palace, Lei and eight other girls learn the skills and charm that befit being a king's consort. But Lei isn't content to watch her fate consume her. Instead, she does the unthinkable--she falls in love. Her forbidden romance becomes enmeshed with an explosive plot that threatens the very foundation of Ikhara, and Lei, still the wide-eyed country girl at heart, must decide just how far she's willing to go for justice and revenge.

Well, what did you think? In my opinion, this is FairyLoot’s most successful box in months, after some printing mishaps in the past. I’m looking forward to the November box. The theme is Battles and Galaxies, and I have a good idea of what the book will be. I’m disappointed that the US version of the book will only have a signed bookplate, whereas the UK version will have sprayed pages, but if I’m correct about the book and author… well, let’s just say it’s one of my favorite authors so I think I’ll deal :)
