November FairyLoot: Ladies That Slay
The November 2017 FairyLoot box was absolutely incredible and stuffed to the brim with goodies. It's always a good sign when they only manage to include a couple of handfuls of the purple crinkling. Not only was I waiting to see what FairyLoot's exclusive cover of The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli would look like, but there was a second book included as well! All around, an amazing early holiday delivery. Read on for a full unboxing of its contents!
Exclusive Fight Darkness Sticker, Reverie & Ink - est. $3
There isn't any super crazy special about this sticker- it's well-made and well-cut, and I'll definitely be using it!
Exclusive Fire is Catching Badge, Literary Emporium - est. $6.69
I always get a teensy bummed out when I get patches and badges because I honestly have no use for them. This will definitely be given away.
Exclusive Blue's Brew, Bookish Teas - est. $8.24
This tea smells so fragrant and floral and there's even a sheen of sparkle! I love tea and this will be a great addition to my stash.
Exclusive Brightest Witch Candle, Flick the Wick - est. $4
Hermione is definitely my favorite character from the Harry Potter series, and I love how this candle company interpreted the character in candle form. I adore the bright red color, the label, and the subtle scent.
Exclusive Slay Book Sleeve, Aunjuli Art - EST. $14
This book sleeve is incredibly well constructed. It can easily fit a huge book like Furyborn and the padding gives me ease of mind that whatever I put in there will be well protected. There is no closure, however, which doesn't bother me personally. The print is also really lovely. It's not too feminine or tacky and I would feel incredibly proud showing this off on the subway. I was a teensy bit disappointed by the book sleeve I received in an OwlCrate box a few months back, so this more than made up for it!
Advanced Reading Copy of Furyborn, Claire Legrand
And who is this chunky monster?! An advanced reading copy of a highly anticipated May 2018 release? This was a very pleasant surprise and I can't wait to dive into it next year. Furyborn releases on May 22nd, 2018, and you can view the actual cover and the Goodreads summary below!
The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.
When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.
A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.
As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.
Last but not least, this month's book is The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli. In addition to a signed bookplate, author letter, postcard print, and pin, the FairyLoot version of this box has an exclusive cover! It has silver foiling instead of the gold foiling. Check out the Goodreads summary below!
In the beginning, there was the Namsara: the child of sky and spirit, who carried love and laughter wherever he went. But where there is light, there must be darkness—and so there was also the Iskari. The child of blood and moonlight. The destroyer. The death-bringer.
These are the legends that Asha, daughter of the king of Firgaard, has grown up learning in hushed whispers, drawn to the forbidden figures of the past. But it isn’t until she becomes the fiercest, most feared dragon slayer in the land that she takes on the role of the next Iskari—a lonely destiny that leaves her feeling more like a weapon than a girl.
Asha conquers each dragon and brings its head to the king, but no kill can free her from the shackles that await at home: her betrothal to the cruel commandant, a man who holds the truth about her nature in his palm. When she’s offered the chance to gain her freedom in exchange for the life of the most powerful dragon in Firgaard, she finds that there may be more truth to the ancient stories than she ever could have expected. With the help of a secret friend—a slave boy from her betrothed’s household—Asha must shed the layers of her Iskari bondage and open her heart to love, light, and a truth that has been kept from her.
Box Total Value: $46.63
The total value of this month's box is rather low compared to previous FairyLoot boxes, and especially with the $50 USD that I pay, considering international shipping. But that's mostly because there is no real value associated with the ARC of Furyborn. But personally, ARCs are rather valuable to me, especially advanced copies of books as highly anticipated as Furyborn! So, in my eyes, the ARC makes up for the value of the overall box!
